With AI applications in almost every industry, artificial intelligence (AI) is expanding rapidly into new markets. In an era where self-driving cars promise to soon teem down roads and Black Mirror is the hottest show on Netflix, one such area the technology is moving into is politics. The utmost advantage of AI lies in its ability to predict the future.

AI is trying to recreate the foundation to cognitive thinking that results in the decision-making of human minds and in the case of a machine – analysing, understanding and upgrading its model with more accuracy. MogIA, an AI-based system developed by an Indian start-up correctly predicted the results during three US elections (2008, 2012, 2016), even before their results were announced. While most algorithms endure programmers’ biases, MoglA aimed at learning from the environment, developing her own rules at the policy layer and developing expert systems without discarding any data.

It based its analysis on 20 million data points from platforms such as Google, Twitter, and YouTube, reviewing public engagements across various posts in relation to the individual candidates. While hundreds of new algorithms are created every year, no one has been able to match the accuracy prowess of what MogIA has predicted. Indeed Amazing!!!!

Using various hidden layers and neural networks, we can determine the attributes and trends to understand and evaluate the necessary variables linked together in the model. These joined linkages can then proceed to check the necessary motion of dependency through sentimental analysis; pattern recognition etc to conclude the necessary factors and characteristics with the data analysed from various datasets and predict the outcome.

Sanjiv Rai, the founder of MogIA, admits that there are limitations to the data—MoglA cannot always analyse whether a post is positive or negative. Nonetheless, so far it had been right in predicting that the candidate with the most engagement online wins.

MogIA’s successful prediction of the election has generated a further interest as to what role AI can play in the future. As its ability to predict has been tested on key decisions, the technology could soon be implemented by businesses that wish to gain additional foresight on how their decisions or even their product launches will play out.

While Artificial Intelligence is on the rise at both national and global levels, many institutions fear the control and risk involved by augmenting the technology in the various facets of social and political scenarios. The change in paradigms over any new resource or service has always been criticized but has eventually become a significant part of the change that can be viewed as an upgrade.
